Amid high temperatures at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Las Vegas on Sunday, the former president made a quip about the heat affecting his attendees by stating that he needed their votes, adding, “I don’t care about you.”

Trump and President Joe Biden became the presumptive 2024 Republican and Democratic presidential nominees respectively in March as both continue to campaign ahead of November’s election. On Sunday, the former president took to the stage at his Sunset Park outdoor rally to speak to his supporters.

However, temperatures began to rise with a forecast of over 100 degrees during the event. At his rally, Trump spoke about the heat affecting his attendees as he made a joke about needing their votes.

“By the way, isn’t the breeze nice. Do you feel the breeze? I don’t want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don’t care about you. I just want your vote. I don’t care.” His supporters laughed as he then said, “See now, the press will take that, and they’ll say, ‘He said a horrible thing.’”

Everyone is making this out to be a terrible thing for a candidate to say but I’ve dreamed my whole life about having an honest politician in this country.

Haha. He treats them like dirt and they love it

Honestly this just makes it so funny. How much of a bootlicking coward do you have to be to love this man so much? He’s not the second coming or anything, the loyalty is not reciprocated at all.

Everything about Trump’s popularity is so fucking weird. I could live to be 1,000 years old and never understand it. At least in a religious cult - the marks have their dogma to keep them warm and their leaders can enthrall them with weird charisma. But Trump doesn’t even have any juice anymore. There’s no there there. He’s like a fat, old fifth rate standup comic. And his ~1 hour act is nearly 100% complaints and rants that are mostly incoherent.

When someone is a cishet white male of sufficient wealth, consequences vanish. Then such a mega-rich-light-bending-guy gets bored and test the boundaries, finding that there aren’t meaningful boundaries anymore.

Is there a word or phrase for when you describe or say something true but do it in a kinda funny way? Like you word it so it comes off playful or silly… but you actually do mean the words you’re saying. Surely the Germans have a 30 character long smashed together word to describe it

I guess not, it’s like a combination of facetiousness and sincerity…sincere facetiousness?

Jester’s privilege? Like how people imagine that court jesters could say uncomfortable truths to the king without getting their heads chopped off because they did it in the form of a joke.

“Just kidding… unless” is how I’ve seen that described. For being a bigot or otherwise a piece of shit, I’ve seen it called “Schrodinger’s Asshole.”
