i started watching TNG on a whim a few months back and have recently finished it. i’m starting in on DS9 now but I gotta know: are any of these TNG movies worth watching? i was pretty happy with how the show ended but if there’s still some good TNG stuff to watch i gotta watch it lol

I quite enjoyed the movies, though they got a lot of negative reviews. They’re decent additions to the canon, but they don’t really add all that much and are just an hour or so of fun each.

watch them if you want, don’t if you don’t want to. You’re not losing much from not watching them. I purposefully waited until I was done with Voyager to watch them, and I honestly think that made them better.

They’re not phenomenal films, but I really enjoy them, still. I’d say if you like the TNG era shows then definitely give them a watch, but they only lightly touch on stuff that happens in DS9.

However, events of especially Nemesis feature in heavily in the Picard series. All of the TNG films have interesting concepts and ideas, but almost uniformly were executed in a very mediocre way. They’re all much more closely related to Star Trek 3 in terms of quality, versus 2, 4, or 6. Probably could be debated, but I think they’re all better movies than Star Trek 5.

I gotta say after watching the TNG movies after finishing the show, me + wifey were so dissapointed that we’d rather just watch any given episode rather than the movies. First contact wasn’t bad, but probably not as good as one of the worse TNG episodes.

They’re definitely quite different from the shows. First Contact was my favorite TNG movie. Generations is a distant second. I can’t rate Insurrection other than to say that I’ve tried to watch it about 5 times and can’t get through it. Nemesis is just garbage, but it has a couple plot points that are the launching point for Picard. You could get away with reading the plot summary on Wikipedia, it’s really quite an atrocious movie. The high point of the film was the opening scene in the Romulan Senate, which, while a horrible scene overall, was well executed in my opinion.

They are fanservice, but are written nothing like the show. I don’t even consider them canon

thanks for the comments guys. DS9 is kinda disappointing me so I might dip into the movies soon (first contact looks really interesting… love da borg, best bad guys imo). i will probably post my thoughts about them

DS9 first two seasons can be a slog, but trust me it’s worth i from season 3 onward.

DS9 really is at its peak in seasons 5 and 6, I think. 3-7 are all good, but seasons 5 and 6 are absolute winners. Hard to think of any two seasons of Trek that are better than those two, in my mind.

yeah right now it’s basically TNG sprinkled with some religious stuff. they’re looking for the bajoran dragon balls or something idk and there’s a wormhole i guess? i like the characters at least.

It’s been a year or so since I finished DS9, and I miss the characters sooo much.

I would say yes they are however apart from First Contact I found them lacking compared to the ToS movies.

I’ve just finished the first 6 movies over the last week and plan on watching the TNG ones again this weekend so I may change my opinion. We shall see 😁
