You know, every time i open such thread with “Reform in socialist country” i am scared shitless it’s yet another gorbachevism, fucking living in the time of blackest reaction did that to me.

This however looks like in opposite direction.

Empowering the research sector? Straight form Lenin

Centralising and improving overseeing of finance sector? Straight from Lenin

Establishing and centralising control and statistic institutions? Straight from Lenin.

Particularly the last point you mentioned is reminiscent of Soviet central planning institutes.

The fact that China feels confident enough to start moving in this direction is a good sign. Capitalism was ascendant in the 80s and 90s when the surviving socialist countries like China, Vietnam and even Cuba were forced to adopt market reforms. The fact that many of these are now being rolled back indicates that the global balance of power has shifted and the momentum is now strongly against neoliberalism. There have also been indications that Vietnam may follow China’s example.

To me all of this sounds really positive, steps in the direction of a more efficient system with less bureaucratic bloat and with a focus on encouraging innovation and growing China’s technological edge while at the same time expanding the role of the state in determining the direction of science and technology, reintroducing some elements of central planning while still keeping the dynamism that has propelled China to where it is today. The CPC is pushing confidently toward the next stage of socialist development.
