    Particularly the last point you mentioned is reminiscent of Soviet central planning institutes.

    The fact that China feels confident enough to start moving in this direction is a good sign. Capitalism was ascendant in the 80s and 90s when the surviving socialist countries like China, Vietnam and even Cuba were forced to adopt market reforms. The fact that many of these are now being rolled back indicates that the global balance of power has shifted and the momentum is now strongly against neoliberalism. There have also been indications that Vietnam may follow China’s example.
