My prediction is that once Russia wins in Ukraine, then it’s gonna be curtains for NATO. Europe is in an economic crisis now, and we’re already seeing that translate into a political backlash already. Meanwhile, US sees China as the main threat, so I expect that the plan will be to leave Europe holding the bag, while refocusing on Asia. These two factors combined are going to create some irreconcilable tensions in the alliance I suspect.

I think that outcome is pretty likely. The US tried to pivot NATO into a resource for them in Asia to pit against China, but it really didn’t stick. Even Japan rejected the idea of joining NATO while they were pushing for a branch office here, and when Japan rejects the US you know it’s an unpopular position.

With NATO not really being useful to them as a wedge against China, they’ll probably leave NATO to the EU forces.

That’s my expectation as well, and with US providing the bulk of the military for NATO, the whole thing falls apart at that point. I also think it’s very likely we’ll start seeing European countries joining BRICS as the economic situation in Europe continues to unravel. Hungary, Turkey, and Slovakia, seem like prime candidates in the near future.
