What was the deal with him? He is being martyred as a hero journalist since his assassination by Saudi Arabia.

The problem I have is that his father, Adnan Khashoggi, was an arms dealer that worked closely with the CIA. So my assumption is that he must have something going on with him as well. I don’t know what though.

I think what you’re seeing is class solidarity of a sort from media failchildren who have assumed their whole lives that covering news would be exciting and obviously praiseworthy but not dangerous because that would be too scary. It makes them uncomfortable that a friendly nation that the US is doing nothing about tortured a colleague of theirs to death. They would prefer something be done, but short of public shaming have no tools at their disposal to get any results.

I think that accounts for a lot of the press coverage at least.

I think Citations Needed also once covered this topic where mainstream journalists collectively show a strong reaction when “one of their own” gets merked while at the same time being disgustingly apathetic to journalists not part of their clique like the Palestenian woman who was shot and killed by IDF. (That sadly does not narrow it down at all.)

Aha! That’s why this story has such legs in the media! I always thought it was strange how much attention it got.

I’ve been going under the assumption that he was a CIA-or-whichever-Blob asset, and ended up on the wrong side of the Saudi royal family during MBS’s Year of the Long Knives.
