Will they also ban US for the invasion of Iraq and Israel for the occupation of Palestine?

With this US philosophy, I wouldn’t be surprised if Russian FOSS is also banned from GitHub (M$)

They already banned people from Iran on Github, no? So probably only a question of time.

But luckily there are many good alternatives to Github these days.

I mean, when they inevitably attack github it just might. Sucks that it has to be that way but it is all pressure to have the russian people stand up .

Are participants from Ukraine, Russia, or Belarus allowed to participate in GSoC 2022?

Due to current circumstances, GSoC 2022 is not accepting participants (Contributors, Mentors or Organization Administrators) from Russia, Belarus, or the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (“DNR”) and Luhansk People’s Republic (“LNR”). There are no restrictions on participants located within Ukraine but outside of the DNR and LNR.

Not even a ban from sanctioned countries like we usually see. Oh what’s this, Google has an office in Moscow? Well then

Edit: And for those curious, Moscow isn’t the only office with no openings (i.e. neither Kyiv nor Edmonton have positions)

So Crimea is fine then? Cause i think they still consider it part of Ukraine.

I’m sure they mean to exclude people from Crimea as well, but since it has been de facto a part of Russia for 8 years, I guess it just goes without saying

My guess it’s not so much a ban as the practical consequence of adhering to the current sanctions. After all GSOC implies a paid position, and payments to these regions are covered by the sanctions.

The concern is retaliation for the crap perpetrated by the software authors who nuked disks based on the IP address appearing to be Russ. That misguided and unethical attempt at armchair warfighting cost far more to the people fighting the Russ than it did the Russ themselves.

It’s a fucking war , people. It involves us all, like it or not, because that is how the aggressor has played it.

You can tell when you’re in a fight when a thug is punching you in the face. That you don’t choose to respond in your defense doesn’t mean you’re not involved. It just means you’re an idiot taking an ass kicking.
