Its not for a lack of trying… almost every country in central and south america had a popular communist movement that was squashed due to their promixity to the US. Only a few have survived (obvi only Cuba is openly ML, but the others are at least in transitions): Cuba, VZ, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Peru.

By west do you mean the western hemisphere? I was thinking @pimento@lemmygrad.ml meant the global north or the “international community” by west.
