So, I just came across this picture from the GDR showing what the Volkspolizei called “negative-decadent youth”. This was a major blunder on the part of the GDR, as it attributed any and all youth subculture to reactionary influence. Communist youth groups in socialist countries can and should incorporate pre-existing subcultures instead of trying to replace them. So, yes, I am arguing that a Komsomol Furry Club should exist “But the furry fandom has bourgeois elements!” Yes, that is currently the case, but you can stamp these bourgeois element out without redefining what the furry fandom is. In fact, I’d argue it is these bourgeois elements, such as squabbles over intellectual property, that are holding the furry fandom back. The problem here is that communist youth groups, both past and present, have always been headed by people 1+ generation removed from the current trends. While the FDJ had an age cap at I think 35, there are still 15 years between a 30-year-old leader and a 15-year-old standard member. China’s gotta be one of the worst offenders with this. The current first sec of the CYLC, Ah Dong, is in his 60s.

    Me trying to pitch socialism within the furry fandom:

    • Stage 1: I get their attention and they’re interested to learn more.
    • Stage 2: They decide to venture into socialist spaces to meet the people, who I’ve been telling them are standing up to minor rights and real, practical, inclusivity
    • Stage 3: They are met with book worshippers who find them icky and gross.
    • Stage 4: They go back to Anarchism.

    Meanwhile: “Okay people we have no material power, we have no real party, we can’t grow our book-clubs, why hasn’t China saved us, but Lenin said …, read Mao on combat liberalism and don’t actually read it, because he’s talking about me and I don’t like it, why does nobody like us?”

    Added: But honestly it makes sense, given that the material most Marxists in the west study are from a select library, that more then likely has been deemed safe for Capital, even figures like Engels you don’t really hear his name much, you don’t hear about women authors much, you don’t hear about Gramsci and now to expect people who have been neglecting them completely, to accept that maybe they might have been wrong and that they should study new material, with a new approach, it takes great courage to step down the mountain and start again, especially when you think you are almost there.

    Many people will end up stuck halfway through. The more you learn, the more courage you need to learn something new.
