I don’t even want to dream about it. It would probably provoke a retaliation, which could lead to an unlikely escalation, or more likely it would probably result in something similar to the Iran-US retaliatory strike. The problem is sinking a tanker can have many bad environmental repercussions, which would damage US PR a lot.
