and it works so well. I went down to one of these after the general public shaming from someone on Hexbear and it was exactly as you might expect. A bunch of really old people with signs muttering and chanting the same tired hey hey ho ho crap, and a bunch of kids who think they’re changing the world by standing on sidewalks along a busy street with cars honking in support.

Then everyone goes home satisfied that they sure showed Trump. And nothing happens and nothing changes. Of course.

The composition of these gatherings is very telling: mostly white, often visibly well-off and suburban, typically Baby Boomers and Gen X or Gen Alpha. You see a lot of more well-off looking non-whites but there’s a noticeable absence of the same low-income attendees you see at BLM protests and similar. The massive Millennial & Zoomer crowds that show up at Palestine protests are also noticeably absent. Almost no immigrants in attendance; most of the people marching are born & raised. Speaks volume that these rallies are for the same petite bourgeoisie & labor aristocrats that unironically want a return to brunch. Everything wrong with American Liberalism personified.

Genuinely they could be sitting on their ass at home and it would have the exact same effect. Americans love to complain about problems but hate actually doing anything about them and it’s the most infuriating thing. These people really think they’re gonna change anything by just loudly saying they don’t like what the government is doing - a strategy that has famously never worked at any point in history, but hey surely this time it will because America is just built different I guess?

Part of me wishes I could live in whatever fantasy world these clowns inhabit. They seem genuinely happy at least.
