Meanwhile everyone in the West has seemingly stopped using Neural Nets for anything genuinely useful, or interesting, to the point where I feel like “AI” or “Neural Network” are now synonymous for BigTech’s latest “inventions”.

It’s the material conditions, China has a vast industrial base and they’re actively focusing on scientific and technological advancement. Hence, there are plenty of useful niches where AI tech can be applied. On the other hand, the west is largely deindustrialized, so the niches are mostly in ephemeral fields like entertainment or the service industry.
