Fuck al jazeera and mid east eye. They are comprador outlets and they fucking wanted this. They shouldn’t be allowed to distance themselves from any of this. Fuck the gulf states. What should happen to them is what happened in Iraq to that Saudi station after they called sinwar a terrorist.

And if you read far into the article, they say there is no proof the US supported AQ and IS in syria which we all know is a fucking lie.

Edit: this article should be titled “Our American Masters are Saints That Never Did Anything Wrong”

One thing I’d love for lemmygrad is to have a pinned post about western media and media discipline. I’ve seen more than a few posts that link MEE, NYT, Al-jazeera, etc uncritically for news.

While I believe we should know what the western media outlets have to say about current events, it’s also true that we should strongly emphasize the use of left-wing and non-western outlets. We need a mix of western/non left and non-western/left news media to avoid being an echo chamber, while having a realistic grasp of current situations.

A couple weeks ago I called out a post for linking a story from the NYT regarding the “ceasefire” between Lebanon (not Hezbollah) and the entity. My goal was to point out that uncritically accepting stories from western outlets wasn’t good for lemmygrad. The post was removed, but I still see more western outlets being linked than non-western for news on West Asia and Ukraine.

It’s just a nitpick, and I would be happy to write a master post (in a few months, I’m busy rn) about how to critically engage with media, media discipline (what is and isn’t a primary or secondary source), and just basic stuff about misinformation vs disinformation.

I feel like lemmygrad users, and the site in general, would greatly benefit.

I completely agree. We have decent non-imperialist and non-comprador sources and we should use those. Even when pro-imperialist outlets tell the truth, it’s so they can tell a nefarious lie later. They laid the groundwork for normalization with zionism and sectarianism over decades. When we use those sources, we should point out the clear ulterior motives.
