Something to be wary of is, iirc, a lot of stuff becomes illegal in Canada if you’re carrying it for self-defense reasons. Like owning a baseball bat is fine, owning a baseball bat and telling a cop (hypothetically, of course we wouldn’t talk to a cop) that you’re carrying it in case someone attacks you is not fine. So you’d need to go with something that has a plausible reason you’d be carrying it that isn’t this racist asshole I think
I was just reading up on this. We have some weird rules here. Basically, you’re not allowed to carry any item with express purpose of self defense, but you can use it incidentally if you had one on you for a different purpose. And there’s also the whole proportional force aspect.
I’m mostly worried about my partner, but looks like we can get her coyote spray which is at least legal here.

It’s probably set up like that so that people don’t walk around armed to the teeth for “self-defence” reasons like they do in the states.
