Yeah, i think Skyrim reference is more fitting - Nightingales there were an inner circle of thieves guild serving Nocturnal, daedric prince of darkness (daedra are roughly equvalent of devils in Elder Scrolls). Their characteristic was having unique armor and weapon, and having their souls taken away by their patron after death.
