A scholarly study found that British colonialism caused approximately 165 million deaths in India from 1880 to 1920, while stealing trillions of dollars of wealth. The global capitalist system was founded on European imperial genocides, which inspired Adolf Hitler and led to fascism.
There is a good book partially related to this subject titled Italian Colonialism, which not only discusses Fascist colonialism but also the continuities between it and liberal colonialism. Fascist Italy inherited Eritrea, Libya, Somalia, and the Dodecanese Islands from the liberal era, so they already had quite a bit of their work cut out for them, and this along with other variants of European colonialism would become important sources of inspiration for the Third Reich.
I’ve discussed before how the enmity between Great Britain and the Third Reich were actually late developments in their relationship, and they could have been allies if London agreed to it.
