I liked Mandos better when they were just cool guys in armor. Like Boba and Jango, but then Lucasfilm became aware of their fan favorite status and put them at the forefront of everything. Literally everything new we learn about them makes them look lamer and lamer. They went from asshole crusaders with a vague honorable backdrop to space samurai that have nothing but agreeable politics.

Less is more I feel.

I used to follow the KOTOR-era Legend as well, so whenever a Mandalorian started talking about honorable conduct or something, the first thing that came to my mind was “Your concept of ‘Honorable’ included literally nuking civilian targetS to proof a point”. And by ‘nuking’, I didn’t mean proton torpedoes or turbolaser, I mean one of a few instances in Star Wars legend where actual nuclear warheads were use.

The same feeling goes for the Mandalorian (the series). Seriously, I’m imagining Mandalore the Ultimate saying the catchphrase “This is the way” as he ordered the nuking of Serroco.

If KOTOR were still canon, they’d just say that The Ultimate wasn’t a “true Mandalorian” to preserve their new golden boy status. Which is…actually canon but that’s a whole barrel of monkeys.

Ultimately, their concept of honor is that of the ancient greeks, germanics and celts. A code they abide by, and if their opponent does not, by virtue of not knowing their code, then they deserve everything they get because they’re obviously dishonorable.

The idea that honor includes mercy towards outsiders is a newish addition to the concept.
