I can’t link the relevant Telegram and Twitter posts atm, but reports are about 60 Ukrainian commandos landed just east of the power plant this morning. RAF started shelling the area and engaged them with planes and helicopters. The Russians also claim they sunk 2 more landing ships due west of the plant. Situation isn’t yet fully resolved from what I can tell.

First, just wtf are these lunatics doing. Second, the inspectors arrived in the region yesterday iirc and were supposed to inspect the plant today or in the coming days. The Russians pulled out their forces from neighboring Enerhodar for this visit. Essentially the Ukrainians used the visit as shield for an amphibious assault on a nuclear power plant. That’s the least nefarious interpretation here. What in the world would they have done had they seized the plant. Take the inspectors hostage? Do a PR piece for the world showing the planet they themselves shelled and attacked under their controlled to the world, using the inspectors to give the story credit? Just wtf.

Edit: Seems like the UAF are currently detaining the column of inspectors at a checkpoint about 20km from the frontline.

I think the plan was to sabotage the power plant and cause a leak. Also possibly, they were trying to cause the inspection to be postponed/cancelled.

I don’t know how true this is and I don’t have any official source but: Russians are saying that they had intel that Boris Johnson was involved in the planning and he was going to use a leak as an excuse to stay in power citing a clause about the world being in danger. That would explain all the visits from Johnson to Ukraine and the rumors about Ukrainians training in the UK. But again, as far as I know, this is not confirmed or substantiated in any way.

    Edit: from intel slava:

🇷🇺🇺🇦 The Kremlin was aware of the plans of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to take advantage of the arrival of the IAEA mission and carry out an amphibious landing in order to try to seize the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and make statements for days that it was Russian special forces. Under ideal conditions for the work of the DRG, they calculated the task of taking the mission itself hostage and keeping the nuclear power plant under mines, making demands for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops to the territory of Crimea.

Boris Johnson brought the plan of operation and some of the instructors with him as a demobilization chord of his premiership, but if the GUR was successful, he would have refused to transfer power, referring to an international emergency threatening a catastrophe on a planetary scale. At the moment, 47 DRG fighters have been destroyed, three have been taken prisoner (!), Two are in serious condition between life and death. A group of 12 people is blocked on three sides and cut off from the water and boats, by 15:00 CTO will be over. Zelensky’s statement on this situation is expected in the late afternoon, the head of the IAEA Mission has already been notified of the situation, as well as UN Secretary General Guterres. The operation was coordinated by MI6 officers from their headquarters in the suburbs of Kyiv. All 64 DRGs have recently completed training in the UK and traveled from Warsaw to Odessa on 29 August.
