If you’re wondering if this was a real article - yes it was. Used to be a bit of a legendary meme in Russia. IIRC the author did it as a joke to parody the various pseudoscientific articles that were cropping up in crazy amounts at the time. Unfortunately, many didn’t get the joke and thought it was a “serious” study. You know, serious like astrology and whatnot.

Except that it was not an article, it was a joke one-shot program for TV One of the funniest things I’ve seen, especially considering that everyone present during filming can’t hold in laughter.

Wild how the destruction of communism instantly caused flood of charlatanerie in all afflicted countries.

Nah, this whole thing was a joke from start to beginning. Some kind of a statement on the journalism and TV contents of the period iirc.

it prepared the people entering capitalism to not trust everything on the news. which i guess most had already incorporated into the cognitive dissonance of living through those last days of the soviet union. overall a great move of defiance, of which i wish we could see more in capitalism these days…

When you lose your job and all your savings, and the world around you becomes a living hell, then your mental health will clearly not be in the best position.
