    I think that what the image is trying to say is that both the Allies and the Axis oppressed their subjects. In other words, World War II was not a simple battle of good versus evil; it may be accurater to summarize it as a lesser evil versus a greater evil.

    Although I suspect that the author was making that point in ill faith, I basically agree: in many ways the Western Allies weren’t vastly better than the Axis. (There’s a reason that the Third Reich repeatedly tried to ally with the British Empire in the ’30s, after all.) That said, placing the Soviets’ violence in the same basket as the West’s is unnecessary to say the least.
