  • I happen to be from the south

    Really?! I could not tell!

But you’re literally proving my point.

You just have to insert your opinion, and insult me while doing so, because you can’t take any sort of criticism.

You cannot accept any truth with what I say because you are in denial that the South has been a massive problem with the progress in the country and the civil liberties of Americans for literal centuries now.

I’m not calling for anything, I’m just stating,

I Do Not Like the South (“fuck the south”)

  • It’s not.

There are many red states, some I have lived in (ID, IA) that are just fine. Sure, I disagree with a decent amount of people who live in those states, but it’s not conservatism that I have trouble with. It’s the culture of the south that I cannot stand and am just stating my opinion which now I know is not a very unpopular one on this site now.

Quit being so grumpy crouchy, my jolly ol friend 👉😎👉

  • This is not a southern only quality. Selfish people exist everywhere.

Yes, but rampant in the South.

Another thing that isn’t just a southern thing.

Correct, abstinence isn’t only in the South. I never said it was. But you can’t deny that abstinence sex ed is the predominant sex ed in the south.

You were hanging around some trash people then. A lot of the people I know from the south would give the shirt off their back even if it meant they had to get wet.

Keyword is “know”. Like I said, if you’re in their inner circle, it is different as you exist in their universe. And again, not every southerner is a bad person just like not every non-southerner is a good person.

Again, this shit is everywhere. Come stay with me in Detroit for awhile and see if you think so harshly about the south compared to other places.

Everywhere has its rough areas. I’ve actually been to Detroit several times and have considered moving there. Every city will have that “tough” part of town, but there is a stark difference between rural Michigan and the rural south. I have driven through both on many occasions.

No, because Christians typically shun all other religions. So anytime they encounter another they are more likely to not learn about it because of their religion saying there is no other religion that is right besides theirs. Another thing that isn’t a south only trait. Southern Baptists are probably the worst with this kind of thing. I’ve got stories

The ironic part about that is that mindset is completely anti-Christian. Jesus Christ taught tolerance. Something the average southern Christian, like the baptists you speak of, are not.

Do fucking what? Go back and read what you said about corruption in the government. Has fuck all to do with the culture. Jerrymandering is a motherfucker.

The reason why we have issues like gerrymandering and the active threat against voting rights can be traced as far back to the leniency towards the south after the Civil War by Andrew Johnson. He allowed those that were in power in the south before and during the Civil War to stay in power after. By keeping the same leadership installed, you keep the same mindset.

And when you want me to define the South, do you mean what states? The Southern Culture? The Confederacy? What exactly would you like me to define in my own terms?

Do you think a possibility of why southern cities are becoming more and more blue is because of the combination of several cultures from expats coming from different parts of the country and world?

Exposure to other cultures has proven to be able to kill ignorance and intolerance.

It would makes sense why those in position of power are doing everything they can to maintain that good ol Bible Belt culture we all know.

  • So are you saying you think banning all guns would be the solution?

I wouldn’t disagree. I just don’t know if it would be entirely possible given how deep the gun culture in America is. I’m just trying to come up with solutions that would make everyone happy.

When it comes to gun storage laws, no. Not having random gun inspections. But say in a situation like a young child getting ahold of a gun that has just been left out, which seems to happen frequently, that should be a massive penalty. I feel like there should be more laws that penalize irresponsible gun owners much more harshly and maybe people would treat them with more respect.

I live in an area of the country where it seems like a bunch of people who are idiots and completely irresponsible love to have a firearm. I vividly remember hanging out with an older buddy years ago driving down a gravel road, he thought he saw a cat on the side so he pulled over really fast and grabbed his handgun so he could shoot it. Those are the type of guys I do not think should have guns. They’re not fucking toys. They’re literal machines made for death. They need to be treated as such.

That’s just my view though. I’m sure there’s others out there with more knowledge on the subject that could come up with better solutions. I just feel like no one is and it’s annoying as shit.

  • We really could solve so many issues if we just did the basics. Stronger background checks, better gun storage laws, provide basic firearm education (maybe even make it mandatory).

I’m pro gun. But think about the people you know who should never own one. That’s what we should be focusing on. Weeding out irresponsible gun owners and harsher punishments for those that ignore the laws.

Every pro gunner likes to use murder as a comparison against gun laws, “well murder is illegal, but people still do it!” Yeah, but can you imagine how high murder rates would skyrocket if they were legal? You’re not going to stop all gun deaths, but we could do a shit ton to at least minimize them the best we can.

It’s so frustrating because all we need to do is implement common sense gun restrictions to keep them out of the wrong hands, but nooooo. That takes too much brain power for half of the US, apparently.

I have to say I sat back and thought about your comment for a bit more and it actually changed my perspective on the whole ordeal. I think the keyword was “justified”.

I thought about the justification of using nuclear weapons, my thought process being “they committed the evil act, we are just responding”. But then that made me realize that that’s exactly what the terrorist thought.

To them, 9/11 was their retaliation. And we saw how horrible of an act it was.

Seeing how they believed they were justified really put my whole opinion into perspective and made me question it. Now I see the flaw in my reasoning. So thanks for that, friend.

  • I’m not ignorant at all of the evil our country has done across the world. We’ve done a lot of messed up shit, that’s for sure. What makes you think I believe that would all of a sudden validate all of the things the US has done?

I completely understand the resentment towards the United States and think it’s well warranted. But we’re not talking about the atrocities America has committed in the name of “freedom”.

I’m talking about the use of nuclear weapons in response to a purely evil act in order to prevent anything from ever happening like it again.
