The problem isn’t really temporary at this point. I’m on year 30. I have two bachelors degrees, half of a masters and I work 80 hours a week to sleep on a floor mattress at my friends house.
I want out so badly. I suffered through a college degree, I’m working two jobs but I can’t do it anymore. I hate living here. I’m poor, I’m trans, I’m teetering on homelessness. If I can’t get out I’m just going to end up becoming an hero.
Dr Phil hired a client to work for him and then later developed a relationship with her. Gotta wonder about the advice he was giving her….
“If the models are trained on images of specific individuals, the models can reproduce images that resemble those people. In the worst case, the model may even directly output verbatim copies of images from the training set,”
Yeah, as someone who has done survival sex work, the illegality is a plus for the Johns’s. “Officer, the man that was supposed to pay me for a sex act changed his mind afterwords!” Or removed the condom mid act, or “oops, wrong hole!” Or the fact that if you get murdered it’s not really a big deal - are you going to ever talk to cops?
I think sex work is a hell that no one should have to go through. Maybe you can run an OF or sell feet pics without trauma, but I don’t have nightmares about working fast food or retail like I do the sex work. The illegality makes the hell worse though.
As a teenage girl into coding, I was treated like absolute shit. If I made a mistake in my botball code, it was because I wasn’t good at coding. If a boy made a mistake in their botball code, then it was something that the other boys would help them debug. I remember it being assumed I just wouldn’t be able to figure out what structs were, so the boys running the botball code didn’t teach me. In college, any group project was an opportunity for boys to try to fuck me.
As a trans man, someone who has experienced life as both a man and woman in STEM, there are massive barriers to women. It’s invisible to you because you haven’t lived through it.
What about those of us with trauma caused by therapy? “Recovered” memories, queer conversion therapy, and all kinds of shittiness.
Also, every therapist I’ve tried has done nothing but give me worksheets and CBT (or just tells me to quit my job 🤷♂️)
Cutting costs. At this point teachers are expected to stock their own classrooms. There’s very little money for anything.
Also it’s recruitment for teachers. Extra day off = actual time to get things done/restore sanity. A lot of rural districts do this because they’d have no one otherwise.
Original draft of Empire by Leigh Brackett had Luke meet a force ghost of his dad. Obi Wan pretty clearly says in the original that Vader killed Luke’s father, which you can certainly claim he was being metaphorical, but I’ve never really gotten that vibe. Luke and Leia are also infamously handsy. I suggest hunting down VHS rips of the originals to see what you think. It’s a shame we’ll never get the unaltered versions in HD.
George Lucas claims it was always his plan, but he also has waffled on so many things (was it always planned to be 6 movies? Or 9? Or just a one and done?) One aspect is that he did have just a shit ton of random, unhinged ideas that never made it in.
I don’t think Tarkin has to be a Sith - more that he’s a smart cookie and knows how the politics work. He knows that if he could find some way to take down Vader, it would make him look more powerful/valuable in Palpatine’s eyes.
Also, not driving is not really an option in a lot of places. Driving terrifies me, but I just have to deal or not eat 🤷♂️
Vader wasn’t originally planned to be Luke’s dad. One of the producers came up with it halfway through Empire.
Part of being Sith is fucking over others, even those you are “allied” with. The way to become second in command is to kill the current second in command. Tarkin is at the point in his career where killing Vader would probably be a good move if he could manage it.
You do not get paid for summer breaks. It’s the same as if you took an unpaid vacation every summer, but put some money in a bank account every month to cash out for it.
You’re ignoring the massive amount of students on IEPs who require special services, as well as the fact that online education requires family support and motivation.
In my state, teachers don’t have to have their credential.
I live in Oklahoma. I make $40k/year teaching. I can not afford the up front cost of moving to Seattle. Long term I’d love to end up in a corporate job, but because teaching is so shit and a lot of people are leaving, transitional jobs are difficult to find.
You are not paid for summers. This is a very common misconception. You essentially agree to give them an interest free loan every paycheck and they give you that money back during the summer as a “service” to you. And usually you are spending that time doing professional development or a second job.
Teacher - school districts are so afraid of getting sued that unless a kid is physically assaulting another student we have absolutely nothing we can do about it (even then, no guarantees). If your kid goes to a public school, all of your kids classes have one or two students that are allowed to do essentially whatever they want with no consequences.
Cell phone addiction is also huge. A lot of the “learning loss” being blamed on Covid is in part just the fact that students spend class watching TikTok’s or bullying each other in group chats. Don’t fucking text your kid during class. Vaping is as predominant as smoking was in the 80s.
Or it could be that some folks live in areas with no access to mental health treatment. Even a diagnosis is a year long waitlist, costs a K and isn’t covered by insurance. Some us have also been seriously traumatized by therapists (conversion therapy for queer folks, ABA, being medicated inappropriately as a child…) Some states also maintain registries of folks with ASD and it can interfere with the ability to emigrate for example.
“Just go get mental health treatment!” Sounds great on paper, but for some of us it’s months of waiting to see the bottom of the barrel - brain drain is real in red states. My state is simultaneously trying to force therapists/mental health professionals to upload client notes to a government portal, while also attempting to put together lists of trans people.
Because the last time I had to do sex work and got raped multiple times :)
