Is there a COD level where you kidnap children for SAS blooding rituals? 'cos overwise I don’t think it’d be very useful for training British soldiers.
Kojima vindicated once again.
This has been going on forever though. VBS (Arma for the military) has been around since 2002, Maeve mentioned America’s Army. I don’t see why CoD couldn’t teach you the basics of how to slice the pie, how a sight picture should look, how to reload a gun in theory or even just recognize a plethora of military equipment. All the basic stuff in CoD is pretty grounded.
Its psychological & cultural indoctrination, not really military training. Make killing le bad guy cool, make the western militaries look badass.
The problem is that in modern industrial war like the one in Ukraine, it is very common to go from being mobilized to sitting in a trench to being blown up by a drone, glide bomb, MLRS missile or artillery shell without ever even seeing an enemy soldier. Face to face, gun to gun firefight type combat happens for sure, but it is not that common. The skillset that needs to be trained for a modern war is very different than what you may imagine if your idea of war is formed from games and movies.
Aren’t most kills in every war since Artillery was invented due to artillery?
My point also isn’t that CoD teaches you to be a soldier by itself but armies start from absolute 0 anyways. Don’t see why you couldn’t have people play some CoD to get the general gist of how to reload an AR15-type-weapon before you put them infront of an instructors.
The article also cites VelociDrone and just generally being able to use a controller to manipulate shit, latter especially seems to make a lot of sense as a transferable skill because you do have to develop that one

USA used America’s Army…
