This shit seems so easy to do that there is a part of me that wants to just start making shit up and posting it to reddit. Make up a fake publication name, and just create fake screenshots of news posts that don’t exist, with crazy headlines like this, and flood the market with them.
Maybe at some point it’ll be so obvious this shit is made up that people will be poisoned by it and start thinking this shit is fake too.
Please don’t; people WILL believe it and then they’ll start sharing it, and next thing you know a publication like radio free Asia (if that’s still around) will pick it up, and then a publication like this will regurgitate the story and reference RFA, not your own post.
The only problem is, it might be hard to be absurd enough to poison it. If people will believe they’ll execute someone for listening to kpop, there’s probably not a lot they won’t believe. I guess what you’d have to get especially absurd on is the way things are done in detail, so that it sounds as weirdly specific as possible. Like “as punishment for making silly faces, they slathered a banana up and down a person’s arm, but they had to wait for it to be raining first so they can do it while the sounds of rain are in the background because slathering without background music is too boring and a recording of rain is too funny.”

Unrelated but i like how common it is to see women in traditional garments in the DPRK. It’s frankly tiring seeing western style fashion everywhere in the world nowadays. China has also been big on the Hanfu trend for a couple of years and i think that’s cool too. Just wish this would extend to men’s fashion more as well. Western style suits are so boring…
