Idk, I believe it. She seemed like the kind of blank state lobbyists and the Dem machinery could put whatever they want on. Anything she previously believed, any semblance of Dem progressiveness, was vulnerable to being wiped out by their echo chamber, bags of money to the “experts” in their campaign, and plain old spinelessness.
But I had a feeling this was happening during the campaign, too. Strategically, it seemed like a really stupid idea to not separate yourself from the current Presidential Administration. And these people are dumb, but not that dumb. A lot of them are really smart in evil ways actually. The only explanation I could think of was the ego of Biden and his desire for a good “legacy” was forcing them to not separate themselves. Like sure, the problems with the Palestinian part of the campaign was all them, that’s standard blue lib policy, but not separating yourself from an unpopular administration in other ways? Why not? That seems like a common-sense strategy even a standard blue campaign advisor would push forward.
One thing is, it’s funny she’s not blaming herself, the memoir seems like a way to blame Biden for the loss; but it 100% doesn’t make their team look good, either. I keep hearing Democrats say, “But she couldn’t separate herself from the administration she’s in!” As if that was some rule they just made up that can’t be changed. They just didn’t want to get on his bad side, possibly out of loyalty, possibly because he was still kind of her boss, but for whatever reason, it was dumb.

I should have added a bit about how Beau’s death both ensures the Clinton nom in 2016 and Biden’s weird dogged persistence to “do it for Beau” to re-enter politics after 2016 - the year he probably could have won - had already come and gone.
