I’m in the process of learning DOOM Emacs to move away from Codium, and the process prompted me to reflect on editors I’ve used in the past. There is one obscure editor I’m having flashbacks of: jGrasp. It was the editor I learned to code in because it’s what my professor recommended. It is ugly and barebones as hell. Also, it’s written in Java. I would never use an editor like it today, but I didn’t know any better at the time.

Make sure you learn a little bit of elisp otherwise configuring emacs can be painful even with a bootstrapping layer of DOOM Emacs.

I personally haven’t used any obscure editors. Only vim, neovim and emacs. I have tried kakoune and helix but not spent that much time with them.

I have used the ed text editor on Unix version 6. I think that counts there. Though it’s actually kinda nice once you figure it out, and I can absolutely see how it had use in that era.
