I know I’m technically part of the problem but this thread got me thinking about the Endless September. I’m pretty sure the numbers in the linked thread are inflated, but regardless, this definitely feels like a turning point for the preexisting LemmyNet culture.

I will say I’ve enjoyed my time in the local subs here for sure!
the old users must be so annoyed about the new kids thinking they own the place, but as a new kid myself I am very glad they set up all the groundwork for us to ruin the fun.
But the site on the-federation.info looks like this, so I’d take it with whole bag of salt.
Yeah I know some instances have found and purged a lot of bot accounts, so that’s encouraging! Obviously active users will always be a better metric.
Users to people is especially not 1:1 on Lemmy even excluding all bots because people make accounts on several instances
New site culture is objectively a good thing if tempered correctly by willing moderators, assuming they haven’t yet reached burnout or overwork (a very real risk of so many new users)
