All the hockey subreddits on Reddit are focussed only on the NHL and there’s no place to discuss non-NHL hockey. That’s frustrating since there’s a lot of good hockey being played elsewhere especially in the KHL, SHL and DHL. Does anybody want to discuss non-NHL hockey here? What are some teams you support outside of the NHL?
KHL is a super cool hockey league. I’m Much more of a football/soccer guy but I’m from Canada so hockey and the NHL are everywhere, literally cannot escape it, so I do try to enjoy it sometimes.
When I was last in the balkans they were showing KHL on TV quite a lot so I caught a couple of the games Beijing were playing in, it’s a very good quality of hockey and enjoyable to watch I would say. Found it interesting how many Canadians (at the time at least) played for Beijing.
Even here in Canada there are other hockey leagues worth watching that most people ignore cause they aren’t the NHL. My city of under a million has three professional teams even. I like going to see matches of my city’s team in the lowest of the three leagues because it’s almost entirely against teams from other Canadian cities instead of mostly US teams. Would be nice to see lower division hockey here supported more the way lower div football is in other countries.
Since you’re a Canadian into soccer, what do you think of the Canadian Premier league?
BTW were you in Slovenia? It’s the only place I know of in the Balkans where hockey is popular
Big fan of the Canadian Premier League so far for the most part. I’ve been a season ticket holder at my local club since day one. Many things the league could be doing better but it seems relatively stable and to be moving in the right direction. They survived the pandemic and finally recognized the player union recently so I’m optimistic.
I was in Istria so near enough to Slovenia lol. Have never seen any rinks there though so yea I don’t think it’s popular much in Croatia at least on the coast.
I’ll start, my favorite KHL team is SKA Saint Petersburg and my favorite DHL team is Eisbären Berlin
