Where can I find other “instances,” and can you explain about the possibility of their getting “wiped?”

Here’s the list. Our instances (this one and dev.lemmy.ml) will never be wiped, for other instances you have to ask the admin.
OK, I only see a couple there, and I noticed that the example ones you shared in the link from my previous comment are absent, but no problem. I’m surprised that those URLs can be whatever you want, e.g. “feddit.social”
Oh yes test instances arent listed there, only production instances. It works with any valid domain (you can find domains on namecheap.com for example).
