So many layers of The Process and the only defense against political assassinations is voting.

We are so far past the point of voting our way out. We’re the most propagandized people on earth. My god. And the US has been assassinating political rivals since it’s founding. It’s a country built on assassinating political rivals.

I take this to mean they don’t really believe what they’re saying.

They probably think they believe it, but their behavior shows what they really believe: this is a normal election. I don’t know what it will actually take for them to actually start believing what they’re saying, but when they do they’re not going to just ask people to vote harder 🙄

If you don’t vote, the next president will assassinate you. Vote like your life depends on it!

Don’t ask how we got there or critique the society that would even have that decided in an election.

I agree that they don’t really believe what they’re saying. The west is so insulated from civil war, coups, assassinations, political violence, extreme inflation, or other rapid changes in quality of life that the things they are talking about are completely abstract. Decades ought to be measured in centuries in the west because nothing really changes.

That’s the gigantic paradox with the West, simultaneously the most insulated from that sort of turmoil yet constantly afraid that they’re the most exposed to it.
