My worry does actually go back to Bernie 2020 - it radicalized a lot of people, but because they were unprepared for the moment when the door slammed they were unable to continue their organizing beyond it. They just became jaded posters and podcasters.

Unless the DSA is actively preparing for the innevitable betrayal the exact same thing could happen again. Sure, it’ll create more radicals, but there won’t be an actual organizing infrastructure left for them to pour their radical energy into. We’ll have to start over.

Though we’ll be starting from a better position, simply because it raised the consciousness of former DSA members.

We aren’t going to be able to have regional unity as long as oil remains a vital resource. It creates power imbalances between different Arab countries, and obviously invites imperial meddling to prop up reactionaries to superexploit the nation for resources.

China is weaning itself off of oil, though, and other countries will follow. This will totally change the region in ways I can’t imagine.

Might that imply that pan-Arab parties are possible, though? Rather than unifying these different dialects and geographies under a single polity, form a federation of cooperation between national struggles. That’s sort of what pan-Latin parties are attempting, rather than recreating Gran Colombia they just want a unified political and economic bloc between equal partners.

I think it does matter that most people joining the DSA are completely unprepared for this eventuality.

I doubt that’s what most members of the DSA want, even its more radical membership. Their goal is to win elections, not get barred from them.

I think we can distinguish between a privileged racial caste and the ruling class.

Something like 15% of white people find it very challenging to make ends meet, but we wouldn’t say that we don’t live in a white supremacist society. After all, take any of those white people who are struggling and then take away their whiteness - everything gets even worse and they know it. That’s why so many poor whites will fight to the death to defend their white privilege, even as they scream that they don’t have privilege. Whites can be workers or they can be rulers, their whiteness is merely a privilege but not a ticket to power and wealth.

This is basically the DSA thesis, right? The problem they are going to run into is, eventually, they’re just going to ban DSA members from running in their primaries. They will not allow their party to be taken over by entryism, and there aren’t a lot of legal constraints on their ability to control their primaries. I think they could even racially segregate their primaries still and there’s no legal mechanism to stop them, because they’re considered private and not subject to the voting rights act.

Is it worthwhile to force Democrats to ban the DSA? Yeah, maybe. It would certainly raise the contradictions and make building a real workers’ party much easier if people ever found out that they aren’t allowed to do entryism anymore.

It must be worse on some planets than others, too. Imagine if we reached this stage of development, but had twice as much fossil fuels that were easily available to us on the surface. Or our oceans were half as massive, and so could only absorb half as much excess heat. Or we were already slightly closer to the Sun and didn’t even have ice caps.

Been without a car for the past week, just riding my ebike 17-18 miles to work. Daytime wasn’t so bad, but one night was so cold I had to turn around and wait at the factory until 3rd shift got off at 6:30 am so someone could take me home.

I really need to change my fking name, being sir’d in emails and over the phone because of my driver’s license and insurance and shit just added to the stress of not having a car.

But! Got approved for credit for my repair, got a loaner from the repair place, things might be looking up?

At least I like riding my bike, even if it’s still kinda bent out of shape from when I was hit by a car years ago.
