A poll conducted for the European Council on Foreign Relations conducted in February shows that “an average of just 10 [%] of Europeans across 12 countries believe that Ukraine will win

I still can’t believe it was ever considered possible for Ukraine to win the war.

Even more of a problem for Europe is that its countries have been cutting back on climate-related investments and increasing defense-related investments. The European Investment Bank (set up in 2019) is, as the Financial Times reported, “under pressure to fund more projects in the arms industry,” while the European Sovereignty Fund—set up in 2022 to promote industrialization in Europe—is going to pivot toward support for military industries. Military spending, in other words, will overwhelm the commitments to climate investments and investments to rebuild Europe’s industrial base.

Even in fucking themselves over, Europe manages to drag everyone else along with them. Is Europe going to suffer the most from climate change? No, so why would they ever prioritize it?

I don’t think any person with a functioning brain ever thought Ukraine could win either. In fact, plenty of people warned that a war in Ukraine would be a disaster for many years.

And yeah, prioritizing jingoism over the needs of humanity is par for the course for Europe.

The systems rule the world. If the system demands profit over everything else - on they go with their wars. Reason be damned
