Hardly for the first time, remote Arab tribesmen are reshaping the world. Piratical attacks on international shipping by Yemen-based Houthi rebels have created a significant security crisis in the Red Sea. The world’s largest shipping lines have been forced to suspend transit through the Red Sea and thus the Suez Canal. And with nearly a third of global container traffic typically flowing through Suez, this has seriously disrupted world trade.
The way they dance around why ships are being attacked is almost dizzying. Why are Chinese ships not being attacked I wonder. Could there be some kind of connection here, some aligned motive? What could that be?
It’s an interesting idea, but China has a history of non intervention. That approach doesn’t really align with the title “world police”. I wonder why Spain and France wouldn’t want to be under the direct command of the US Navy in the region. Could be they don’t want to be associated with us policy regarding whatever has Yemen all fired up. Who can say.
