Not black, but am a minority in an area where violence towards my group is common, usually by the same people that would 100% target black people.

Attempt to avoid the situation or flee; live to fight another day. In most fights the winner gets the luxury of dying in a hospital or in an ambulance, the loser dies right then and there. If you can avoid the fight, always do so, never seek out conflict; you never know who is drunk, impaired, armed, or skilled enough to kill you quickly.

Deescalation next. Keep quiet, avoid aggravating the aggressor while looking for all possible exits. Distract the aggressor, and try to attract attention or move the conflict to a populated area if you’ve been isolated.

You need to avoid violence not only because of harm to yourself, but because it attracts police attention.

If they are intent on violence and there is nothing you can do, and you must stand and fight. I carry a firearm, and if threat of defense is not enough, you must follow through and do anything in your power to stop the attack for your safety. Police attention is secondary in this situation, your safety comes first. Whatever you do, do not flee the scene after the fight ends if someone is gravely injured, this is a severe felony. Always call an ambulance first, avoid mentioning things to the dispatcher that would warrant a police response, unless a firearm has been discharged.

Thanks for all this info!! I have a follow-up question: If you managed to record incriminating evidence of the aggressor, is it okay to give it to the police to get them prosecuted or the police will never help black people no matter how much evidence they got?

All evidence should be given to your lawyer. If the lawyer thinks it is wise to give something to the police, they will advise as much. If you are involved in a fight with a white person, then it’ll be your word versus the word of the white person, and the cops will want to side with the white person. The evidence you provide which you might think is “on your side” might very well still be used against you.

When dealing with cops, lawyer up. Even if you can’t afford it. It is better to be indebted to a law firm than to risk a death penalty.
