I wonder if the libs will pretend that he didn’t do as well as he could have. He didn’t even get to 60%.

    Edit

    A NYT comment…

Haley got 39% of the vote against the person who is supposedly in full control of the GOP. He will get the nomination but he is weak. Some of those 39% in swing states will not be with him.

    Haha.

Is Haley still in this because of her ego / liberal + corporate donors / she thinks Trump will somehow be disqualified, thus forcing chuds to vote for her in November?

i feel like she’s hedging her bets. She wants to be Mitt Romney, but isn’t quite good at it. I feel like she wants to be a liberal darling, one of the good conservatives who stood up to big mean Trump. If Biden wins, she’ll run for a lower office or gun for a cabinet position. If Trump wins, she’ll get book deals and CNN spots for years.

I think she’s hedging her bets on Trump dying of a heart attack sometime before November. I mean, why not stay in the race? It’s not like Trump dying is unlikely.

if that’s the case she’s really fooling herself believing the republican establishment will pick her. They’ll just do something goofy at the convention and give the nomination to Eric Trump or Don Jr. The hogs would eat that up.

My Occam’s razor answer is that it’s an ego thing. Her ego must be the size of a small city. Not only that - she has an army of insanely overly-paid sycophants providing her with advice and “data” that show she’s got a shot at winning. She well knows they have a huge incentive to lie to her. The longer she stays in the race - the more money they make. But denial (in this case self-deception) can be as powerful as love even though nobody writes songs about it.

At this point it’s just betting a bunch of other people’s money that Trump’s body will shut down before the election

The counties she won are strongly Democrat majority. SC has open primaries, and the Democrat primary was even more of a joke than usual this year; it would not surprise me if a significant number of Haley’s votes came from people who will vote for the Democrat in the general.

I almost went to vote Haley just to be a little shit, but in the end decided I had better things to do. I’m just glad I’m going to stop getting texts from her campaign now.
