When the Avdiivka fighting started I looked at some photos of the town to get a sense of what was about to be worth tens of thousands of lives. Everything of note in it is Soviet. It would be a church surrounded by fields without machinery to plow them if you took away the Soviet accomplishments. They dragged Ukrainians kicking and screaming into the future.
