As someone who tried to ignore a ruptured appendix, this definitely didn’t happen. I couldn’t stand upright, I whimpered in my sleep, I couldn’t eat. By the time I finally went to the ER, they kept me on an overnight hold with an IV of antibiotics. They couldn’t attempt removal at the time because the swelling was so bad, so I took antibiotics for a month before things were settled enough to remove. The antibiotics gave me the superpower of being able to smell the awful and unique details of everyone’s breath. Oh and the pain waking up from surgery was awful (searing hot pain at incision points, extreme discomfort while my body absorbed/processed out the gas they inflated my abdomen with) and they gave me the tiniest crumb of fentanyl and things were all better for about 30 minutes. After that, they literally told me to walk it off cuz they needed the bed for the next patient. All this cost me $10k out of pocket, AND I HAD INSURANCE.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Fuck a lot of things about America, but especially fuck its health care system
