I’ll keep replying to this as I talk to people about it because people I know seem really demoralized & like going thru the motions so to speak.

BDS has like multiple levels of boycott basically so people can choose their level of commitment, you know do what you can, so this idea it’s similar to camping out on wall st until you run out of energy is silly. BDS has very coherent and pointed demands and has good PR leading to articles that can credibly point to a company taking a hit in sales for a quarter, you know they can fold really fast when people all pick it up. Start by cutting out luxuries, then try to substitute essentials with less exploitative sources if possible.

This isn’t like just blindly trying to reduce consumption as a way of sticking it to the man. I mean just reducing goods and services consumption and shit doesn’t even approach dealing with the system of debts and rents they’re protesting. “Fuck mcdonalds and jpmorgan” does not a dictatorship of the proletariat make,

On its face there are definitely similarities like going into the Blackrock offices and making them shit their pants by just standing there. “The poors are going to come for us!” is really the only thing that puts the fear of God into banksters, because they’re paranoid. Anne Pettifor being like “debt is a carbon bomb” means nothing to the cocaine addled suit, nor does Liz Warren being like “this system is unsound, i will now spend ten years trying to pass a bill to get rid of executive golden parachutes”

Occupy is also the subject of ridiculous hyperbole from ppl like the Liz Warren book club for that reason: It’s not just that the context is different

Good article in some ways (also they do good Epstein journalism, their highly visible and annoying ideology is still better than neolibs). Naomi Klein has always been a complete liberal hack by the way people just didn’t notice until last month like Leigh Phillips.
