Heya! if anybody actually reads this.
I checked the logs, and it seemed as if people rarely played, and when someone did login, it was for a short time‒a few minutes.
I’ve wiped the worlds. Well, I have moved the worlds to a different location on the server, so it generates a new one. I’ve also taken this opportunity to update the server to 1.20.4, and update some of the plugins. Also to get a feel, now that things are changing, should they change more? Should we do something else than vanilla survival?
Yeah! Id play a lot more if it was modded. Im really enjoying an altered version of valhelsia 6 at the moment with a couple of friends. Something about magic and tech really does it for me
It seems we never had a big player base in the first place, when I played there was never more than 3 or 4 peoples at once on high activity days, when there are peoples it’s usually 1 or 2, and there is no one at all the rest (most) of the time.
There isn’t much activity in the Minecraft lemmigrad com either. People don’t seem to know the server or the sub even exist.
If we want more activity we need a bigger player base, it doesn’t matter what happen to the server if no one knows it even exists.
In my sense the lemmigrad Minecraft community has 2 problems:
-
Our lack of activity on lemmigrad make us hard to notice for peoples who aren’t already aware of us.
-
Our low player base and it’s lack of coordination makes it so players find themselves playing alone most of the time which negate the interest of having a server as opposed to a single player world.
These 2 problems feed of each other in a loop, (2) disincentivize playing on the server which keeps activity low, low activity perpetuate (1) which keep the player base from increasing which maintain the conditions for (2).
In my opinion the main way to solve this issue is to begin by tackling (2), since it would be hard under the current conditions to increase our player base right of the bat, we should begin by improving the coordination of our current player base by making it easier for player to know when other players are/will be online, via a dedicated matrix channel for exemple.
Making sure that player are able to actually play together should increase engagement, which should increase activity on the lemmigrad Minecraft sub, which should in turn make the sub more visible and potentially bring in more players.
What do you think?
You are right.

Modded could be cool, I’d like to have the create mod.
I would love galacticraft and galaxyspace too but the last versions are for 1.12.2 .
I’d also like to have create, if I were to choose anything. But it has been a bit since I checked out modded minecraft.
There’s a mod called ad astra for newer Minecraft versions
One of the big things was that there were never very many players to begin with, we just had a few who were active a lot. A matrix and more promotion (what I tried and failed to do with the pvp thing) would definitely help. And I’m making a matrix channel (more secure than discord)
https://matrix.to/#/!cEpCbgkwKIBtrOSrGl:matrix.org?via=matrix.org
I made it public. Join here.
for reasons beyond my comprehension i can not join this room
give me your matrix username, that might work
@milim:genzedong.xyz
@milim:genzedong.xyz
sent
also should be public now
It seems I canot join the room
I invited you now
thanks
Good initiative, as I’ve said multiple times in this thread the problem that killed engagement on the server is that with that few players you can’t expect to connect whenever and find other peoples logged on at the same time consistently.
A matrix chanel is a good solution to that as it allow more live communication than lemmy which will allow peoples to plan times when they can log on and play together more easily.
As for promotion, it will come naturally with a more engaged player base, as the server becomes more active the numbers of posts on here will increase which will get us noticed.
i would say have both, a matrix room for important thing and a discord for convenience. Not like we do anything that requires the extra security anyways, we have a minecraft server. me and edward are considering to use my existing discord too, since it already has some members. (see my comment chain with edward above for more info)
One problem is see is that we have a bunch of minecraft servers. There isn’t just lemmycraft, but also the hexbear server(s) (not sure if they are still running). Them there is my own server, which is a little different because its more or less non-political queer server.
Both in terms or resources and player base it would be very reasonable to try and kinda merge these together, or at least merge the hexbear and lemmycraft servers, since mine is kinda different due to the political makeup of the player base. it would also be useful to have something like matrix or discord or both, optimally with chat bridge to the mc server.
This would allow us to have multiple servers and spread out moderation work more easily. And it would also just get more people here.

I agree with that 100%
especialy the discord/matrix server, logging on and playing alone most of the time because you don’t know when others are online kills the interest of having a server.
I did see that hexbear was supposed to have one. But it didn’t seem as if there actually was one. But yup, we should combine lemmygrad and hexbear. I’ll make a discord, and uh… a matrix.
well the hexbear people seems to already have a discord and so do i, not sure if making a third one is going to help
Right.
the questions that need to be answered now are 1) how do we feel about my server which has some libs on it and 2) how do the hexbear minecrafters feel about this
the answers are: 1) ah its mc, and they are pretty decent libs, so it should be fine 2) hexbear mc server is so fucking dead, i don’t thing they have anything to say about this
and they are pretty decent libs, so it should be fine
“Left” libs are mostly well meaning but misinformed, so yeah, it should be fine if they are not terminally lib.
hexbear mc server is so fucking dead, i don’t thing they have anything to say about this
I don’t see why they would refuse even if they did, both servers (hexabear and lemmicraft) have every reason to merge, plus a fresh start + merger would be a good excuse to promote it/them on more porpulated subs like c/games and c/commradeship. I see no downside.
yeah, but merging isn’t really an active act on their side, as the server does de facto not exist
MTR mod so we can make trains
ComputerCraft!
If we ever decide to actually do mods.
