After six officers complained of inhumane orders, including withholding water from migrants to deter them and pushing people into the Rio Grande, Texas Department of Public Safety cleared itself of wrongdoing. For example, Texas DPS found that there was no order to withhold water, only to “not provide water to everyone” which apparently Texas DPS sees as two different things. They also said that signs were posted about the dangers of the razor wire they placed in the river, but that the razor wire was not intended to hurt anyone trying to cross over it. Is Texas DPS training their investigators for the mental gymnastics Olympics?

Here’s a thought: the organization accused of brutal and inhumane treatment of migrants should not be allowed to investigate itself. Obviously even Texas troopers agree, as they’re the ones who raised the alarm in the first place.
