If not, I highly recommend it. It’s a lot of fun as a pure puzzle game, but the entire story appears to be an excuse to do a bunch of marxism. It’s full of dialectical materialism. It’s got Lenin quotes. It’s talking about how material conditions shape history. It loves talking about power and how it’s not inherently bad and it should be wielded for good.

I haven’t looked into who wrote it (I should), but I can almost guarantee they’re some sort of marxist.

Can you believe the developer who makes Serious Sam developed an incredibly communist video game?

Croteam was also created by a bunch of Yugoslavian software pirates who were part of one of the last highschool classes to graduate before the collapse of the USSR.

Yeah, they’re basically a bunch of dudes who got one of the last socialist educations in the Soviet Union and were suddenly forced to interface with the West in their terms. Like Serious Sam only exists because they weren’t allowed to sell “stolen” code for a soccer game clone they made. So they copied ID and made their own engine for it.

I really liked the first game, it was exactly my kind of pseudo-religiosity and pretentious nonsense, you have completely sold me on the sequel by telling me it also has Lenin quotes.

You’re in luck! The Lenin happens almost immediately if I’m remembering right lmao

I’m about halfway through the game and still really enjoying it.

That’s good to hear, I remember the first one libbing out a bit in the dialogues you could have with the satan figure, where you could basically argue marxist points up to a point, only to be met with some lib troll response that you could only either accept or disengage from completely with no option to stick to your convictions.

Yes, this was frustrating. My partner just played the original a couple of months ago (I played it when it came out and loved it) and we both were a little frustrated and the story fell a little flat by today’s standards.

Yeah I bought it on launch day and have been playing it, probably six hours in. So far it basically seems like it’s Half Earth Socialism: The Game, thematically. Prometheus (nature exists for humans to use to service their desires) vs. I don’t know what a good shorthand is, avoiding exponential growth and live in harmony with nature in a comparatively static society.

I loved the first and was really excited for this one but unfortunately my PC can’t run it. It’s definitely one of the first games I’ll play when I eventually replace it.
