Hello fellow Chinese students. I am currently struggling a bit with the pronunciation, since it is one of the hardest aspects of Chinese in my opinion. Although I think I’ve understood quite a few of the sounds one can make, mostly for consonants, vocals are quite hard to grasp.

My solution to this would be to create an Anki deck with one card for every sound there is Mandarin (25 in total, without keeping in mind how tones affect this), which would include pinyin, zhuyin, the IPA symbol, a hanzi, an audio, and if possible, an image of the mouth position.

I think this is not such a hard task to accomplish, since most of this can be obtained from the internet fairly simple, maybe the image of the mouth position is the hardest, but still I am not so confident and some help would be awesome.

Here is an example:

I have the same frustration with Thai. It too is a tonal language and I struggle to hear the differences. Up, down, level, long, short; I can’t hear the difference in normal conversation.

Ideally I would like to do this for every language, since it is a good way to master the IPA, but that would be harder.
