Humanitarian crisis: No response from the state or federal government.
Maybe not foolish but IMO overly idealistic. The democrats could use Trumps populism and distrust of establishment GOP to get him to agree to increasing the minimum wage but the way the Democratic party is today (where they’re trying to knee cap the progressive wing) makes me cynical they will try to make reconciliation work. Heck Biden is building a new military base in Syria, we’re back to the evil empire with a smiley face pasted on.
On top of that, why even bother with reconciliation? They have majority of votes to get minimum wage raised. The fact that he’s pushing it to reconciliation means he can’t get his own party to agree to it (embarrassing considering it was a policy plank), and instead of airing the dirty laundry and saying, yeah even us democrats are not progressive, instead they’ll say; oh yeah, it was the republicans fault, we really wanted this to happen but gee, it’s the party that doesn’t have a majority that stopped out majority vote.
I agree with all your points, I think I’m looking at it the way I am so it feels like somewhat of a win and less of a “more of the same” that it actually is.
While I do enjoy some of the policy changes this is shaping up to be far from what I had hoped with a mostly Democratic Senate and House. I think I also had been too idealistic, believing that the party would unite more and bring in/tolerate/listen to the progressives and cast off the tiptoeing that is still occuring.
I’ve been cynical about this since they did Bernie dirty during the primaries. I think they’re waiting for AOC to trip up and then they’re going to put her on blast. My hope is that leads to a progressive party (a country the size of the USA really needs more than 2 parties if it wants to be a functional democracy IMO.)
I guess Im foolish but I’ll still wait to closer to the reconciliation before giving up home.
I don’t see a reason why the rich wouldnt keep getting richer, especially if what was said in private pans out - it’s definitely disappointing.
