People say “veganism is so expensive” as a carnist talking point, as if it’s a fault of veganism and not capitalism.

It can be in some cases. Plus constantly cooking, cleaning, washing pots and pans, cleaning the kitchen counter tops can be tedious and time consuming, even if you are meal prepping. Cheap fast food is an option a lot of the time for poor families.

I am primarily vegan and do eat rice, beans and spaghetti so I see the savings there. But I need lots of calories so I also cook beyond burgers frequently.

There’s no such thing as being “primarily vegan”. A reminder that this is a community for vegans only, so don’t participate here if you are a carnist.

Also rice, potatoes, chickpeas, and tofu are some of the highest calorie per weight foods in existence.

Fast food is not cheaper than staples under any circumstances.

I very much disagree. Everybody should be welcome here as long as they are not anti-vegan.
