Speaking at a meeting of his ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Taipei on Wednesday, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te reiterated that energy supplies for this month and next are assured, and from June more U.S. gas will be imported.
So they’re hoping to get all their LNG from the US, got it. The very next paragraph:
“Taiwan has adopted a diversified and multi-source strategic approach to energy imports,” Lai said, according to a party statement.
Clown shit.
It’s a really smart move by China. If DPP agrees then it lowers tensions and creates more economic integration. If they refuse, then they will face more public backlash because energy shortages are going to lead to a collapse in the standard of living.
Not only that, US gas is expensive af. So even if the RoC gets fuel from the US it will lead to some people questioning why they have to pay double or tripple for their bills.
It seems they’re unwilling to learn the lesson that Europe has been learning since 2022.
Right, DPP are gonna look like clowns by not taking the deal here.
Excuse me for my ignorance on topic - but aren’t they already looking like clowns?
Oh absolutely, but every new stunt they do helps further shape public opinion towards reunification.
China as always playing the long game.
they’re the most patient people on the planet
damn, looks like Christians were right about patience being a virtue
big fat L for my impatient ass
Under no circumstances do you have to hand it to them.
