I once gave my loyalty to a company. I was laid off 7 months later. Now it’s “You want my work? You’ll pay my rates or you can take your business elsewhere.”

That’s not loyalty to the company, they’re taking what the company owes them. Why go through the trouble of finding a new job when you can twist your boss’s arm and force them to make your job better?
