    Racism helps a lot but I think anti-communism is the main factor here. China challenges the power of capital in a way that is a harder to argue against for liberals. Back then, they would simply argue that state planning was impossible, now with China they can’t go there because SWCC has thriving markets, so they have to cling to “authoritarian bad”
