Months ago, before I became completely destitute, I ordered a good supply of sanitary items off amazon. They were so badly packaged that they arrived damaged and very unsanitary. I complained on amazon’s live chat and they said they’d refund and not to bother sending them back.
Today, months later, when I have no income and a maxxed out overdraft, amazon debited my account £35, and sent me an email saying it’s because I didn’t send the product back. This is extremely stressful with the financial situation I’m in. I went back on their live chat and explained the situation, and eventually they said they’d refund me.
Then they said that they were trying to refund me but it wasn’t working so they have no option but to refund me in the form of an amazon gift card. This seems scammy to me, but what could I do but accept? Even though this will cost me more in overdraft charges.
Why does life always have to suck so hard? Every day there is another new and horrible problem to deal with.
You should have tried complaining to your bank. It might be too late now, but banks usually side with their own customers rather than 3rd parties and then they figure it out later. For example, you could have sent the bank a screenshot of the chat where it says they would refund you. If they didn’t send a receipt or invoice or anything for the newly-debited £35 it’s pretty much a scam and the bank would see it that way too, I’m sure.
I assumed there must be something in the small print allowing them to do it, but I will check with the bank.
