I wish Chinese media would really hit back. But I just read an article a few days ago that their politicians are getting bolder.
I’ve been following their reporters and editors, and they’ve been doing somewhat better, but from what I’ve seen Ian Goodrum is the one leading the charge at China Daily because he actually understands Western media
Carl Zha has had good criticism of their strategy. Apparently there’s also a bureaucratic problem of Chinese state media having too many editors that coasted through Western universities, got the degree, and got promoted to jobs back in China without much Western media job experience
Any specific articles you can recommend?
I just follow @isgoodrum and @carlzha on Twitter, they have some good stuff. Carl also has the Silk and Steel podcast
Ian also was a guest on Proles of the Round Table and gave a great breakdown of why Western media coverage of China is garbage. I have a friend at VOA’s Mandarin Service (yeah, it’s weird, she hates the place too) who confirmed the points Ian made. Point is, if both a VOA and China Daily reporter can agree on something, it’s probably true
Well I’m not on Twitter and I dont like podcasts, but thanks :D
