If you are looking to convince them in one sweeping motion (although I’m not assuming you are, but just in case), this is impossible to do.

Start with one topic at a time and use more prodding methods.

I’ve tried using more direct methods about countries like Cuba or China, which my family believes all the usual US lies. I would just sit down and blast away and my family quite frankly hated me for it. They are well educated and really do not appreciate having lopsided (lopsided as in I literally know more than them) arguments like that. They have egos and so do I, so I never really backed down even when I wasn’t the one who brought up these topics.

But this never works. The changing of a person’s whole stance is impossible to do overnight. Pick a single topic to tackle together with your dad as an equal. Don’t use argumentative beat down tactics that you can only really use online. Eventually if they have been convinced on enough topics over months or years (they might even go off on their own and discover more stuff which is great too), the bigger change of position will happen on its own.
